Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluation of women¡¯s knowledge and screening behaviors for breast cancer in Daegu by survey.

Materials and Methods: This study included 99 inhabitant women, who participated voluntarily in free screening program for early detection of breast cancer. The questionnaire was composed of age of participant, questions for knowledge of breast cancer, attitude and behaviors related to breast cancer screening. The ages of participants ranged from 33 to 74 years (mean age: 53.8 years). We compared this study with previous studies in Hwasun-gun, Seoul, Pusan, Chuncheon and Daejeon.

Results: Seventy six percent of participants had been performed breast self examination and 81.8% of participants had been performed screening mammography. The most frequent cause of related breast cancer screening was regular check-ups (58.0%) and the most frequent barrier was inconvenience of take time (27.8%). In knowledge of breast cancer, mean value of correct answer was 1.65 and there was statistically significant difference between the cities in terms of knowledge of breast cancer (p < 0.001).

Conclusion: These data suggest that active public relations and education are essential for early detection o breast cancer. This study may be applied to plan and develop screening program.
